The Feminist Gesture vs. Realistic Feminism

I think that breaking gender stereotype’s ground is more than males wearing skirts for photo shoots and appearances. It is more than awarding those who may have enough while the more practical and realistic events are avoided. Although wearing a skirt passes a message across, it does not have so much effect on the necessary issues. 

Breaking news!!! The same way that having a black president has not cured racism, or having a woman campaign for presidency has not touched the heart of sexism, is the way that a man wearing a skirt will do nothing to change gender stereotypes.

Let me ask you a question; Have the so called “feminists” who go out for parades, topless, bare chested women and men chanting “we want equality” added the tiniest amount of equality to wage rate, wealth redistribution, or gender balance in the political system? Has it reduced the rate of cat-calling young girls in the streets or balanced the ratio of women to men who take responsibilities to be single parents? Maybe yes or not. Sometimes, these actions make effects but other times they don't affect the reality of women within our reach.

During one of the Republican presidential debates when the candidates were asked whose picture they think is appropriate for the $10 or $20 bill, Carly Fiorina gave an outstanding reply amidst the men who were suggesting names. She said;
“I wouldn’t change the $10 bill or the $20 bill, I think honestly it’s a gesture. Don’t think it helps to change our history. What I would think is, we ought to recognize that women are not a special interest group. Women are the majority of this nation. We are half the potential of this nation. And this nation will be better off when every woman has the opportunity to live the life she chooses.”

​Gender stereotypes and injustices have eaten into history and current events that we need more than gestures to cover, heal and prevent them. If more realistic actions are not taken, the next thing you will see is sexism itself wearing a skirt.
