Should Women's Choices Be Limited?

4/20/2017

Abortion and Planned Parenthood

I don't think that they see the problem with the life that is lost as much as they see the problem with who is making the choice for that life to be lost. It baffles me that there is a never ending question mark for women to have choices. Why is the opposite of pro-life, pro-choice? A woman's choice?

Today, I almost had an heated argument with a male who suggested that there should be a middle ground for abortion. The middle ground being that only in the case of rape and some other emergencies should abortion be allowed. He continued, saying there should be a limit to how many times a woman can have abortion: 3 times. At each time for another abortion, there should be a proof of the amount of abortion the woman has had, just to police her freedom to do so. This person, further mentioned how too much funding goes into this planned parenthood that is used to eliminate lives.

I understand that there are different sides to this topic of abortion, pro-life/pro-choice. I am not totally adamant to selecting one but I tend to lean on the pro-choice side. My response to this person was:
"It is quite funny that you are very angry at women who chose to abort and end the life of an unborn child and the amount of funding that goes to planned parenthood for women but what about the funding that goes into building chemical weapons, producing guns and bombs supervised by male presidents so far that have been used to kill thousands of grown lives and worse still, to destroy nations."

I don't think that they see the problem with the life that is lost as much as they see the problem with who is making the choice for that life to be lost. It baffles me that there is a never ending question mark for women to have choices. Why is the opposite of pro-life, pro-choice? A woman's choice? A president's choice is not as demonized neither is the individual's choice to pay taxes that contributes to the destruction of lives in other nation. When men especially speak ignorantly on this topic, the problem that I see is that they are angry that they don't have control over something/or someone they feel entitled to control because it/she is within their reach. Like, hell, why are you not as pissed at the president, and why out of all those atrocities, you don't see him as a murderer.

Similarly, when I read stories of abortion on social media on pages like Joro Olumofin's own, it follows that same pattern. If in a story, a man asks or forces a woman to abort a child, the excuse is that "she is a hoe" or "he is not ready." And in a situation whereby she gives him trouble and wants to keep the child, she is suddenly "a gold digger who wants child support money." Where is the man made responsible in this matter? No where... He will hardly be insulted for having sex when he knew he wasn't ready, he won't be called names like slut, murderer etc. If he is married and the pregnancy is with the side chick, he will be advised on how to shut her down to "save his marriage."

On the contrary, when a female shares her story of wanting abortion, everything changes. She is the "hoe who has been having sex when she is not supposed to, she is the murderer about to kill the child, it is irresponsible of her to do so and blah blah blah..."

It is funny to me that planned parenthood for women questions their morality and self-worth compared to planned parenthood for men - if there is even any. Like a friend suggested, rather than criticize the outcome, lets evict the source. De-fund Viagra for men, shikenah (meaning finished/period).

How I wish this title "planned parenthood" affected men as much as it affects women or is applied to women.  I think that many men are just so privileged that they underestimate the process of abortion. If men could get pregnant too and have had abortions or access to some sort of planned parenthood, would there really be this argument. Of course their damn male privilege does an insurance cover over whatever it is that they can get away with. You are not angry at yourself for contributing to the tax that funds the death of other people through decisions largely made by men, you are not passionately angry that these men make the decisions lacking experience to carry another life within their bodies for months... yet you want to preach to me about women's abortion choices, oh please!

I think the pro-life side is also quite reasonable as life should be valued but just think better before you point fingers against this pro-choice side. If you will fight for pro-life be ready to fight for women to have paid and extended maternity leaves. Extended maternity leaves because, for some of them, it is not only adjusting to the idea of taking care of a new child but the fact that the child is unplanned for. Get more laws that mandate child support for the absent parent. Fix the foster system and provide better opportunities for the children in it... Prepare well for the consequences and fight for the benefits of women as well if you are pro-choice.
