My Opinion About Valentine's Day

2/13/2017

On the other side, I just generally feel bad for most men during valentine's period😩. I sympathize with you male lovers will all my heart. The emotional and wallet drain on men's side these days is ridiculous. Shout out to the men who are in triple trouble! Whose lover's birthday is on the 13th and who was romantic enough to propose on the 15th last year. Mr. Korede bello Jnr and Snr, Mr. Romanthick!!! I hail you.

Valentine's day is a spectacular and world-wide reminder of how single to stupor some people are😂. I remember in my high school days (P.S I stayed in the hostel), during this time, at night, after prep, the boyfriends will surprise the girlfriends with the gifts, hangout and then return to the hostels (I hope that all of you are still dating each other😁). When the girlfriends bring their gifts to the hostel, the single ones will celebrate with them, see, and share the gifts if possible, talk about the most-expensive gifts and all that... And the next day… back to normal! Broke boys will silently reap the consequences😏 and whatever comes next until the end of the term (this is just my addition). There is no moral lesson in this first paragraph, it is just to occupy space and be shady!

There are some certain things I just don't like about Valentine’s day. Let's start with the love quotes and memes😒 that will be doing fashion parade on people’s display pictures... Have you ever seen a meme or a picture with that stupid cupid at the corner hanging some meaningless words? E.g. "Love is being stupid together." I just don't understand what is so cute or lovable about stupidity😕! Please let’s cultivate the habit of thinking and analyzing before posting any meme about love! Because it has quotation mark at the edges or Ex-FLOTUS putting a crown on back-stabbed Obama’s head doesn’t mean it is true.

Second pet-peeve is how this valentine season and the lovers feel empowered to make single people feel or look like NFA's - No Future Ambition. The single tickets, unused and clean pots, unspent money, nice amount of pizza that he/she will eat alone and extravagant time is enough reminder of being single. We don’t need your lousy alarm clocks shoving those romantic shenanigans in our face. In fact, we need to solicit for a day to be set aside specially for single people to celebrate the love that they have for themselves… and those double 💑 folks are not invited. They should live that day normal, we will call that day what? STS: Single to Stupor day! It will be fabulous.

I can tell my friends who have their birthdays on December 25 that they are not Jesus, so they can't have multiple gifts but what's your excuse? It is just not cute when you must do planned-parenthood for your February expenses alone. And to mock the gifts that men get in return😆; socks, ties, boxers with love... On one side, I want to say that females need to improve but on the other hand, it's too much work trying to figure out what a man wants. I just think that the burden placed on men these days concerning this 24-hour thing is very unfair. I'll love to see men feeling that energized, stressed and excited at the same time for the other 364 days of the year.

To conclude, just like one of my friends suggested, valentine’s day should be a season to celebrate all forms of love, not necessarily romantic love. So, if you have a boo, don’t rub it in our faces, and if you don’t have one, spend the day celebrating something or someone you love (like yourself) and make it worthwhile!
