Setting New Year Resolutions – “The interview Analogy”

7/18/2016

Get tired of writing New Year resolutions that are never fulfilled!!! Get tired of blaming God for your own irresponsibility and leaving the things that you can do for God to fix.

If you send in a job application to a company that you have been wanting to be a part of, the normal thing that follows that when they call you for the interview, you come dressed up for the occasion. You drop all your bad habits at home and present yourself in the best way possible. Most importantly, you always leave your contact information and collect theirs.

Similarly at the beginning of every year many of us write our New Year resolutions and perhaps, drop it in a basket at the church but the moment the resolutions are submitted, we go back to bed, expecting God to somehow perform magic and make those wishes come true. Many of us are guilty of not dressing for the occasion to prove to God that we really want what we requested. We do not show desperation through hard work and visible activities that prove that we are making an attempt at our own end.

By the middle of the year, when none of the wishes come true we find ourselves saying, “I give up and leave it all for God to do.” Bruh!!! God is not a magician, He is a miracle worker plus He is too busy working on the things that are out of your power to do. He is busy working on the invisible, your own part is what makes your wishes visible. He will not give you hands, a stove, a pot, matches, fuel, rice, water, salt and still come down to cook for you.

If in your new year resolution, you ask God to give you a new job, recognize that it is your duty to write a good resume/CV, search for companies that are employing, and submit your application. God will play his part in making the employers deem you as best among the other applicants if you submitted a quality application fit for the job.

Don't lay on your bed expecting God to send companies to be calling you. Except you are Bill gates, you will grow like Methuselah on that bed. If you are a student and you want better grades, work very hard and very smart - spend more time with your books. The part that God will play, is to make the Holy Spirit keep you away from distractions and help with a retentive memory. Stop imagining that God himself will change your score on that sheet from zero to 100%.

Get tired of writing New Year resolutions that are never fulfilled!!! Get tired of blaming God for your own irresponsibility and leaving the things that you can do for God to fix.
