Procrastination and Avoiding Baby Steps

8/10/2016

 I think of life as this, if those little baby steps you took some years ago even when you staggered, fell and stood back up can contribute to your ability to walk on a straight line today or if reciting A for Apple and B for Ball can contribute to your ability to read a novel of 700 pages today, how much more can a little action you have been underestimating contribute to your chance of becoming the person of your dreams.

Many of us learnt procrastination to be that assignment that we wait to do until the last hour or that appointment we fail to call for until the due date. Sometimes, I see procrastination as the person we wait for tomorrow to become when we are equipped to be them now. I see it in praying for God to direct ones step without moving an inch from that succulent and tempting side of the bed. I see it in the dreams and aspirations we have the power and opportunity to start but wait till we become some certain age or amass some wealth or meet some people to begin. I see it in the fear of failing and not being good enough. I see it in underestimating the power to start small.

I remember in the beginning of my Junior Secondary School - Year 1, we were made to memorize a poem by J.A Carney;
“Little drops of water
Little grains of sand
Make the mighty ocean,
And the pleasant sand…”

With reflection to that poem, I think of life as this, if those little baby steps you took some years ago even when you staggered, fell and stood back up can contribute to your ability to walk on a straight line today or if reciting A for Apple and B for Ball can contribute to your ability to read a novel of 700 pages today, how much more can a little action you have been underestimating contribute to your chance of becoming the person of your dreams.
