Recently I had the opportunity to interview someone who had just gotten a promotion at her work place. Curiously, I asked her for difference between her roles at former position compared to the new one. Her reply caught my attention. She said that, getting a new position is not for you to start new set of roles. Getting a new position is a reward for exceeding your performance and expectations in your roles at the previous position. In other words, you are just being given a title to top the work that you are already doing.
I loved this response because I know that many times, in life, we tend to wait until we are in better positions and have better titles before we do and be our best. I also learnt that sometimes in life with your actions, words and attitudes, you are already where you need to be, you just need the title and name to show for it.
