Other women will say you
give them butterflies
but it feels as though you give me wings
when I am with you.
When other people fall in love, they say
it turns around their day,
and sometimes, clouds their judgement,
but clarity is what yours brings.
Your love doesn't turn my world around,
neither does it make me a new person.
Its affirmation is profound
and steady, much better than a new season.
Where others are looking for sunshine,
with you, I look for a love like purple rain.
With you, I am learning that
familiar love may not always be the right
one, and a good love may not arrive familiar.
That your love is strange, not conforming,
not disrupting but soothing
and right for you and me
is what makes it love enough.
